Sugarcane is a tall perennial grass belonging to the genus Saccharum, widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. It is one of the most important commercial crops, primarily cultivated for its sweet juice, which is the main raw material used in the production of sugar, jaggery, molasses, and various sweeteners.
The plant grows in long, thick stalks that store a high concentration of sucrose. After harvesting, the stalks are crushed to extract the juice, which is then processed in different ways depending on the final product. Apart from sugar production, sugarcane is also used to make ethanol, a renewable biofuel, and its by-products are utilized in animal feed and paper manufacturing.
